The Independent: Facebook has said it removed 1.5 million videos showing the New Zealand mosque attacks in the first 24 hours following the mass shootings.

The social media giant said 1.2 million of the videos – showing footage filmed by the suspected gunman on a body-camera – were blocked as users attempted to upload.

The company made clear it had also been removing any edited versions that do not show graphic content, as well as “any praise or support for the crime” it finds on its platforms.

Some participants travelled hundreds of miles from Scotland, northeast England, the midlands and Wales to significant ritual locations in what are now Wiltshireand Dorset.

Owlcation: Annwn is known as the Welsh or British underworld. It is the abode of the dead that features most notably in the stories of the Mabinogion. Within the first branch of this prose tale (Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed), Annwn is given the most attention. Far from being a hellish residence, this world’s appearance was strikingly similar to the world of the living. It featured castles, kings, and a landscape not unlike that of Wales of the period.

Lorna Smithers: Within the main narrative of Culhwch and Olwen (1325) lies the story of the hunt for Twrch Trwyth ‘King of Boars’. To win Olwen, Culhwch must fulfil forty impossible tasks. These are set by Olwen’s father Ysbaddaden Bencawr ‘Hawthorn Giant’. The purpose of hunting the Twrch is to take the comb, shears and razor from between his ears so Ysbaddaden’s thorn-bush beard can be untangled, cut and shaved on the day of the wedding feast.

Twrch Trwyth is not just a huge silver, bristly, hoary, old boar but the son of a human chieftain: Taredd Wledig. He was reputedly turned into a boar by God as punishment for his sins. Beneath this Christian veneer lie deeper animistic roots disclosing Twrch Trwyth’s personhood and significance as one of Britain’s ancestral animals.
