Two new posts on the Song of Ffraed

Hi everyone, just a quick post to notify those who haven’t yet subscribed to the Song of Ffraed, there are two new posts with a Beltane theme :

 

I’m four days later than I hoped to be but at last I could test a feeling I’d had for a long time: that the well, indeed the whole of this small ‘not always of just this world’ sacred precinct in Llanllawer, is aligned in specific ways to the Calan Haf (Beltane) risings of both the Sun and Venus.

Of course matters will have changed from the original Taurean era due to precession over thousands of years, but I was intrigued to know how things are now, and how Christianity had worked with the moments since it had constructed its overlays…and how did the Dragon’s journey match up with it here, now?

shn300In the Isles, ‘The Eve’ is almost upon us; when the sun drifts down from the western sky today (approx. 16.30 depending on where you are in U.K.) Samhain Eve (Irish/Scottish), Nos Galan Gaeaf (Welsh) or Nos Kalan Gwav (Cornish) begins.
The Maiden Moon phase occurs at 19.51; and then at 23:42 the sun reaches 15° Scorpio, the climax of this powerful liminal moment.

The Green Fairy Islands of Wales

Off the coast of south-west Wales there have, for centuries, been reports of mysterious otherworldly islands inhabited by a peculiar people. On rare occasions ‘the Green Isles’ are sighted still. They are said to be what the ancient Welsh poem, Preiddeu Annwn, calls ‘the Gwerddonau Llon’, the happy haven, the green fairy islands of Wales.

This video includes many photographs of the stunningly beautiful North Pembrokeshire landscape – and one or two of the fairy isles themselves.

The Gwraig Annwn: The Otherworld Wife

An insightful and relevant short tale from Welsh tradition. Its sentiments reminiscent of the Cathars, or ‘the Albi’ -which is another name for the elusive race people know as elves and fairies.

Gwraig means ‘wife’. The plural is ‘gwragedd annwn’.

 

[An] enamoured farmer had heard of the lake maiden, who rowed up and down the lake in a golden boat, with a golden oar. Her hair was long and yellow, and her face was pale and melancholy. In his desire to see this wondrous beauty, the farmer went on New Year’s Eve to the edge of the lake, and in silence awaited the coming of the first hour of the new year. It came, and there in truth was the maiden in her golden boat, rowing softly to and fro.
