Dr Vernon Coleman MB ChB DSc FRSA: These days I buy newspapers only to scrunch up for fire-lighting. I usually buy the broadsheets, particularly the Daily Telegraph, because you get more paper for your buck – though the price has gone up so much it now costs more than two weeks in a nice hotel in Bognor Regis.
Today, while doing my daily scrunching, I noticed, and couldn’t help reading, an article entitled `Covid has brought with it another fierce malady: motivated reasoning’, written by someone called Ryan Bourne. The article was illustrated, I was pleased to see, with a large photograph of a hand-made sign which contained the words `Distrust Government, Disbelieve Media, Fight the Lies’, which was close enough to my triptych mantra `Distrust the Government, Avoid mass media, Fight the lies’ to make me smile.

Dr Vernon Coleman’s track record of spotting health dangers is second to none. Since the 1970s, when his first two ground breaking books (The Medicine Men and Paper Doctors) were published, Dr Coleman has been gaining friends among patients and enemies among doctors and drug companies.

In The Medicine Men (1975), Vernon Coleman drew attention to the dangerously close relationship between the medical establishment and the pharmaceutical industry. This moral dilemma was answered in the aftermath of the second World War, when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights where “it forbids government from sacrificing some people for the benefits of others.”. Governments, doctors and scientists have been encouraging people to sacrifice themselves for an alleged greater good. One egregious example of this is the dismissal of VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System). Doctors are lying and suppressing information about the effects of the covid-19 vaccine in order to decrease vaccine hesitancy. These people are slandering both their professional colleagues and victims of vaccine injuries for their own moral superiority. No one is infallible, neither government or health professionals. For this reason we must educate ourselves, for we alone are the bearers of the consequences of our choices.

Will Walking: Welsh farmer Eddie McIntosh, who has featured on ‘Grand Designs’ and ‘How to Rescue a House’, fell strangely foul of his local Council, who said yes to a huge wind-turbine development in the moors next door, but said no to his footbridge, fire-pit and compost loo on a historical smallholding. Note – he went to jail for 14 days. He is now out and getting on farming after 7 years of intense legal harassment.
