Ellis Taylor: This was to be my first night staying with a friend in her beautiful cabin retreat in the forested hills east of Perth in Western Australia.

On the first night we were driving back from visiting a mutual friend who lives quite close by. As we descended the winding tree-lined drive to the carport I spotted a huge wolf-like creature. It was sitting bolt upright, over four foot high with an unwavering intense alertness in front of a large tree. Its long coat was two-tone – a pale and a darker brown and it its erect ears were rounded at the tips. It stared at us with a demeanour that stated with certainty that it was on guard and that nothing, absolutely nothing, would get past without its OK. It didn’t flinch as we drove past I looked around but whether it was because trees and scrub were blocking my view or that it had melted out of this dimension it was no longer visible. I had no doubt that it was still there though and that it wanted us to know that…..Something was in the wind.

Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Zarif paid a visit to his Chinese counterpart Wang Li at the end of August to present a road map for the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership, signed in 2016.

The updated agreement echoes many of the points contained in previous China-Iran accords, and already in the public domain. However, many of the key specifics of this new understanding will not be released to the public, despite representing a potentially material shift to the global balance of the oil and gas sector, according to a senior source closely connected to Iran’s petroleum ministry who spoke exclusively to Petroleum Economist in late August.

British Fairies: In a past post I discussed the faery influences detectable in the music of Led Zeppelin.  Now, following my series of posts looking at fae themes in British classical music of the early twentieth century, in opera, musical theatre, songs and chamber works, I want to bring our discussions up to date.

Much of the British rock music of the late sixties and early seventies was suffused with faery.  A very good example of this is the work of Marc Bolan, in the days when he performed as Tyrannosaurus Rex, and before he shortened the band name to T. Rex and became the glam star that we remember.

UFO Archives: Continuing my organizing and scanning of the Parthenon archive at AFU I now and then come upon fascinating and historically unique documents. Sometimes I also discover documents that make me raise my eyebrows in astonishment. A real surprise this week was finding the early correspondence between two pioneers of the Swedish UFO movement, K. Gösta Rehn and Edith Nicolaisen, discussing translations of the books by George Adamski and Desmond Leslie. Rehn was a hardline intellectual rationalist, advocating a materialist-reductionist worldview and a fierce opponent of the classic contactees, whose writings he regarded pure fantasy. Imagine then my surprise when finding correspondence where Rehn present himself as a fervent supporter of George Adamski and his philosophy.
