Icelandic music phenom Bjork once cautioned the New Yorker: “You have to watch out for the Nordic cliche,” she said. “A friend of mine says that when record company executives come to Iceland, they ask the bands if they believe in elves, and whoever says ‘Yes’ gets signed up.”

Theories about why Icelanders in particular seem prone to such superstitions centre on the earliest settlers’ struggle to endure their isolated existence in such a majestic but unpredictable landscape. Sara Dosa’s feature documentary, ‘The Seer and the Unseen’, finds this landscape (shot beautifully by cinematographer Patrick Kollman) under threat by the shift in the country’s cultural values and attitudes towards the environment.

Iceland has huge and little-known historic connections to the Isles, in particular Ireland (going by its gene pool). Both of the one-letter-different islands (almost another one there), countries have strong cultural warnings against disrupting nature without consultation and agreement with Her other commissioned custodians, as touched upon, in regard to Iceland, in the linked article. Although this elementary expected behaviour is vital there are other benefits besides the environment. How humans treat this earth is a reflection and indicator of their inner character, their worth then, as a continuing species. Think on that.

Related…some of you will know that I have been helping to put back together again (repairing, healing, re-membering) an invisible to most eyes, vital Earth current, by walking, with company, Her forgotten path through the three south-western counties of Wales. This dynamic Consciousness is an aspect of the Great Mother Earth. In 2010 I was charged with this task at a sacred Fae Sanctuary in an Otherworld ceremony.

My first view into this invisible sanctum happened shortly before when both I and a friend were allowed to witness a beautiful ceremony and learned that it was dedicated most especially to caring for children. In the hundreds of miles I walked I came across so many exceedingly special places; yet the Sanctuary is something much more than even them.  This dragon (weaving Earth current), fractured, weakened by unsanctioned human activity over thousands of years is now almost 100% healed. Yesterday I was told that I’ve done all that I needed to do, She and Her Others will take it from here. This little known, out-of-the way corner of the world, has fared perfectly as the Goddess’ safe-haven.

When I began, for a long time, Her field’s expanse was never more than 27 yards wide, now She is immeasurable, infinite, and we are beginning to see what a Woman, a Mother, scorned can be like. The wildernesses of our world hold a sense of awe and beauty, a destination for those looking for adventure or peace of mind. Yet, sometimes there can be sinister forces lurking under the tranquil veneer of these places. At times there have been those people who have stepped off into these wilds to never come back, seemingly simply erased from existence and often leaving strange clues in their wake.
